Title: Tropical Escape

Blog Entry: I applied for a field course, Applied Tropical Ecology, and was accepted. I'm still on the fence about it. It's a pricey course, and requires that I buy a ticket to Barbados. It would be an awesome way to spend the month of May. It would be a very appealing "carrot" at the end of my B.Sc. And since I spent last summer working full-time, maybe I deserve to treat myself this summer. Besides, I'm going to be starting my MSc next year, so it's probably the last chance I'll get to ever take a field course. Also, I could take just 4 courses next semester - assuming I wanted to give myself a bit of a break. My mom just got a moderate windfall from two profitable projects. She's offered to cover my air fare. I've got more than enough funds to cover the course cost. And everyone that I've talked to tells me it's the best thing ever. OOH, another thing, I'm allowed to stay for longer than the course itself if I want. I've decided I want to go in early May, right after my exams, and get SCUBA certified there. Scuba diving is just about the coolest thing ever, and I could potentially use it in whatever project I decide to do. There's just one problem - if I go early, which I really want to, who am I going to room with at the research institute? And who am I going to socialize with? Or is it going to be a solitary (in itself pleasant) time? Actually that sounds pretty sweet. I'll bring some books, swimming trunks, guidebook, fistfull of dollars. It's so appealing it gets my heart pumping! WHAT AM I WAITING FOR???
